Dublin holds a card no other European gateway can match: United States preclearance. You clear American immigration and customs in Dublin before you board the flight home, then land in the US as a domestic arrival, walking straight off the plane to your bags and your onward connection. After a transatlantic flight that advantage is worth real money, and it is the quiet reason Dublin punches above its weight as a premium gateway. Aer Lingus built its whole US strategy around it.
Aer Lingus runs Dublin as its hub and flies the widest US network into Ireland, with nonstops from New York, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington and Orlando on a mix of A330 widebodies and the long range A321neo. Its business class carries lie flat beds with direct aisle access, a smartly designed cabin that competes well above the airline weight class, and the catering and service lean into a genuinely Irish welcome. United and Delta fly their own metal from the East Coast, and American adds seasonal frequencies, so the corridor is busier and more competitive than its size suggests.

Yes. You clear American immigration and customs in Dublin before boarding the flight home and land in the US as a domestic arrival, which saves the immigration hall at the far end.
Aer Lingus from eight US gateways, United from Newark and Washington, Delta from New York, Boston and Atlanta, and American seasonally from the East Coast.
Around six and a half hours from New York and just over five from Boston, one of the shortest transatlantic crossings. It is a short overnight, so the flat bed is about arriving rested.
Winter carries the lowest fares. May and September are the practical sweet spot with good value, while the summer long evenings are the peak and the firmest pricing.

The rest of the Dublin file: how US preclearance works, the short crossing and the seasons around the island.
Read moreShow lessThe crossing is one of the shortest across the Atlantic, around six and a half hours eastbound from New York and barely over five from Boston, which changes the calculus of the cabin. It is an overnight, but a short one, so the value of the flat bed is less about a full night of sleep and more about arriving genuinely rested for a trip that usually starts with a drive. Most Ireland itineraries collect a rental car and head straight for the coast, and a few hours of real rest in a wide seat is what makes that first day on the road a pleasure rather than a slog.
Dublin is the gateway to the whole island, and a premium ticket sets the tone for the trip. The city itself rewards a couple of days, the Wild Atlantic Way and the ring of Kerry are a half day west by car, and Northern Ireland and the Causeway Coast sit within easy reach to the north. We can ticket onward European connections through Dublin too, since the preclearance only applies to US bound travel, leaving the outbound journey flexible while the homebound leg still gets the preclearance advantage.
Seasonally Ireland is mild and green year round, with no real bad time to visit and a clear value pattern. The summer months from June through August are the peak for the long evenings and the festival calendar, and they price accordingly. The shoulders of May and September are the connoisseur pick, with decent weather, thinner crowds and softer fares, while the winter carries the lowest business class pricing of the year for travelers who do not mind the short days and the cozy pub season.
Tell our travel experts your dates and your route around the island, and we will quote Aer Lingus against United and Delta, flag the preclearance timing so your homebound connection is comfortable, and come back with a personal quote typically within the hour.
