The one stop options therefore matter more here than they usually do. Lufthansa over Frankfurt and Munich, SWISS over Zurich, Air France over Paris and Turkish over Istanbul all reach Ben Gurion with a short second leg, and when nonstop inventory tightens those hubs are where the flat bed value tends to move. A connection costs you two or three hours and can save a great deal.
The crossing from New York runs a little over ten and a half hours eastbound. At that length the flat bed stops being about comfort and starts being about what your arrival day looks like, particularly with a seven hour time difference on the other end. Ben Gurion is efficient, but its security process is thorough by design and it is worth allowing more time on departure than the size of the terminal would suggest.
Seasonality follows the Jewish holiday calendar rather than the weather. Passover in spring and the cluster of high holidays across September and October are the sharp peaks, and both move from year to year, so a date that was quiet last year may not be this one. Late winter, and the stretch between the summer heat and the autumn holidays, carry the softest fares.
Plan further ahead than you would for Europe. Two carriers holding the nonstops and peaks compressed into short calendar windows means the good dates in the premium cabins go early, and they do not come back.
Ben Gurion itself repays a little preparation. It is a modern and genuinely efficient airport, but the security process on departure is layered and deliberate in a way that most travelers arriving from the United States will not have met before. Allow noticeably more time than the size of the terminal suggests, particularly if you are checking bags, and treat the published minimum connection times as a floor rather than a target.
