Bangkok needs honesty up front: there are no nonstop flights between the United States and Thailand, and anyone selling certainty on a nonstop is selling something else. Every routing connects once, over the Gulf, East Asia or Europe, and that single fact is quietly good news for premium travelers, because a dozen world class airlines compete for the same Bangkok traffic and none of them owns the route. Thai Airways, the home carrier, last flew to the US years ago and has not returned; the market belongs entirely to the connectors, and competition that broad is exactly where negotiated fares do their best work.
The connecting menu is the strongest in travel. EVA Air over Taipei and ANA and Japan Airlines over Tokyo run the classic Pacific routings with short second legs. Qatar Airways over Doha and Emirates over Dubai bring the Gulf cabins, with the long leg long enough to use the bed properly. Singapore Airlines connects over Changi with the final hop barely two hours. The right answer depends on your gateway, your dates and which cabin you want under you for the long crossing.

Winghoppers is extremely helpful! They always find the best flights at the best prices. Too bad I hadn't found you earlier, it would have saved me a lot of money. I can recommend it to everyone, even just to quickly check a price.

No. Every itinerary connects once, over the Gulf, East Asia or Europe. The upside is a dozen excellent airlines competing for the route, which keeps negotiated business class fares sharp.
From the West Coast, over Taipei or Tokyo is usually fastest. From the East Coast, the Gulf routings over Doha or Dubai compete on schedule and often win on price. We quote both directions on every request.
Nineteen to twenty four hours door to door depending on gateway and routing. The flat bed on both legs and a good lounge at the connection make the difference.
The green season from June through October is the floor, the cool dry months from November through February the peak. The European holiday weeks around Christmas sell out the premium cabins first.

The honest Bangkok routing guide: why there is no nonstop, which connection wins from your gateway and when the fares fall.
Read moreShow lessTotal journey time runs nineteen to twenty four hours door to door from the East Coast, and routing choice moves that number more than carrier choice. A West Coast departure over Taipei or Tokyo is usually the shortest path; from the East Coast the Gulf routings compete on schedule and frequently win on fare. The flat bed matters twice here, once on each leg, and a strong connection lounge in Doha, Taipei or Tokyo turns the stop into a shower and a meal rather than a penalty.
Bangkok rewards the effort. The hotels along the river are some of the best value luxury properties in the world, the food scene runs from street stalls with Michelin recognition to serious fine dining, and the city works as both a destination and the doorway to the islands, with Phuket, Koh Samui and Chiang Mai an easy hop onward. We ticket the domestic legs together with the international fare so the connections are protected, and an arrival before noon, easy on the Gulf routings, gives you the first evening on the river instead of in recovery.
The season is the dry months from November through February, when the heat is manageable and the skies clear; this is also peak pricing. The hot season from March through May and the green season through October carry the value, with afternoon rains that rarely wreck a day. Songkran, the Thai New Year in mid April, spikes domestic travel for a week, and Chinese New Year moves regional fares as well. Premium cabins on the favored routings sell out around the European winter holidays, when half the continent decamps to the Thai islands; book those weeks early.
Tell our travel experts your gateway and your dates, and whether the islands are in the plan. We price the Pacific and Gulf routings against each other honestly, including total travel time and the cabin on each leg, and come back with a personal quote typically within the hour.
