There is no nonstop from the United States to Perth and there is not likely to be one soon. Qantas flies the Pacific from Los Angeles, Dallas Fort Worth and San Francisco, but those services land in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane on the far side of the continent. Perth sits another five hours west of them. Whichever way you approach it, this trip is two long flights, and the only real question is which two.
The eastern routing is the obvious one and often the wrong one. Flying the Pacific to Sydney and then doubling back to Perth adds a domestic sector across the width of Australia, which is longer than New York to Los Angeles. It works, and from the US West Coast the Qantas connection is smooth, but it means arriving on your third calendar day having crossed the country you just flew to.

Ask us to quote the westbound routing over Singapore, Doha or Dubai alongside the Qantas Pacific option. From the East Coast it is frequently both faster and a better cabin, and we run both on every Perth request.
Project Sunrise opens US East Coast nonstops to Australia from 2027. If this is a route you will fly repeatedly, that is worth factoring into how you book the next two years.

Winghoppers is extremely helpful! They always find the best flights at the best prices. Too bad I hadn't found you earlier, it would have saved me a lot of money. I can recommend it to everyone, even just to quickly check a price.

No. Qantas flies the Pacific from Los Angeles, Dallas Fort Worth and San Francisco, but those services land in the eastern Australian cities. Perth is another five hours west, so every routing involves two long flights.
Often via Asia, particularly from the East Coast. Going west through Singapore, Doha or Dubai puts Perth near the end of the journey rather than beyond it, and several of those carriers fly a stronger cabin than anything on the Pacific.
The southern winter, roughly June through August, which is mild and wet by Australian standards. March into May and September into November give close to perfect weather at prices well below the summer peak.
From 2027, Project Sunrise is due to open the first nonstops between the US East Coast and Australia on the A350, with New York among the planned routes. That will not reach Perth directly but it changes how the continent is reached.
About twelve kilometres east, roughly twenty five minutes by road, and the airport rail line reaches the centre in around twenty. After a journey this long that short transfer is welcome.

The rest of the Perth brief: why going west often beats going east, what Project Sunrise changes in 2027, and the shoulder months that undercut the summer peak.
Read moreShow lessThe western routing deserves equal weight. Going the other way through Asia or the Gulf puts Perth much closer to the end of the journey rather than beyond it. Singapore Airlines over Changi, Qatar Airways over Doha and Emirates over Dubai all reach Perth with a short final leg, and several of them fly a stronger business class than anything on the Pacific. From the US East Coast in particular the westbound option is frequently both faster and better.
Perth is used to being far from everything, which is why it holds one of the longest flights in the world. The Qantas service to London Heathrow covers 9,010 miles in around seventeen hours and fifty minutes nonstop. In March 2026 the airline ended its direct Paris service and rerouted that flying to Sydney via Singapore, which shifted the European picture but left the London link intact.
The picture changes in 2027. The Project Sunrise A350 is due to open the first nonstop flights between the US East Coast and Australia, with New York and London among the planned routes. That will not put a nonstop into Perth, but it will reshape how the whole continent is reached from the eastern United States, and it is worth knowing before committing to a multi year travel pattern.
The seasons are inverted and Perth has the most reliable weather of any Australian capital, which flattens the fare curve compared with the east coast. The southern summer from December through February is hot and dry and the published peak. The shoulders, March into May and September into November, are close to perfect and priced considerably below it. Winter is mild and wet by Australian standards and carries the lowest fares.
Perth Airport sits about twelve kilometres east of the centre, roughly twenty five minutes by road, and the newer airport rail line reaches the city in about twenty. After a journey of this length that short final transfer is a genuine mercy, and it is one of the few things about reaching Perth that is easier than it looks.
It helps to grasp how isolated Perth genuinely is, because that is what explains the routings rather than any airline strategy. The city sits closer to Jakarta and Singapore than it does to Sydney, and closer to Bali than to Melbourne. Once you stop thinking of it as an Australian city on the far side of the country and start thinking of it as a southeast Asian one that happens to be Australian, the westbound routing stops looking like a detour.
