São Paulo is the aviation capital of South America and Guarulhos is the reason. Five airlines fly nonstop to the United States, American, LATAM, Delta, United and GOL, and both Delta and LATAM alone operate around sixty two flights a week to and from the country. No other city on the continent carries that depth, and it is why a São Paulo ticket frequently prices below a nonstop to a smaller Brazilian destination even when São Paulo is not where you are going.
United holds Chicago, Houston and Washington Dulles year round, which covers the middle of the country without a positioning flight. LATAM launched Los Angeles three times a week on the Boeing 777 with thirty eight seats in its Premium Business cabin, moving to the Boeing 787-9 from November with thirty in business and fifty seven in premium economy. That aircraft change is worth noting: the 787 configuration trades a few business seats for a much larger premium economy cabin, which shifts where the value sits on the route.

Guarulhos carries more North American service than anywhere else in South America, so a Sao Paulo ticket with a domestic leg on the same booking often beats a nonstop to a smaller Brazilian airport. We check that on every Brazil request.
LATAM moves the Los Angeles service from the Boeing 777 to the 787-9 from November, trading business seats for a much larger premium economy cabin. Ask us which aircraft is scheduled on your dates before you decide which cabin to buy.
The drive from Guarulhos routinely takes over an hour and much longer in peak traffic. Tell us your hotel district and we will time the arrival around the transfer rather than leaving you to discover it.

Their flexibility and customer first approach truly stand out. Highly recommend for both value and quality.

Winghoppers is extremely helpful! They always find the best flights at the best prices. Too bad I hadn't found you earlier, it would have saved me a lot of money. I can recommend it to everyone, even just to quickly check a price.

Frequently, yes. Guarulhos carries far more North American service than anywhere else on the continent, so a São Paulo ticket with a domestic leg added often prices below a nonstop to a smaller Brazilian airport.
Very little. Brazil sits only an hour or two off US east coast time depending on the season. The overnight is long, but there is no time zone recovery on arrival, so the cabin decides your first day rather than your first week.
December through February, the Brazilian summer, when corporate demand softens. Moving a trip three weeks either side of Carnival or the New Year does more for the fare than booking further ahead.
Over an hour on most days and considerably more at either end of the working day. The airport sits about twenty five kilometres northeast of the centre and the traffic is among the heaviest anywhere, so arrange a car in advance.

The rest of the Sao Paulo brief: why Guarulhos prices better than smaller Brazilian airports, what the LATAM aircraft change does to the cabin, and how long that transfer really takes.
Read moreShow lessNothing about this route is a time zone problem, which narrows the case for the cabin to a single clean question. The clocks here sit within an hour or two of the US east coast, so there is nothing to adjust to on landing. What remains is a nine to ten hour overnight and whether you spend the following morning working or recovering from it. That is a smaller claim than jet lag would let us make, and it is the honest one.
Guarulhos also works as the gateway to the rest of the country rather than as a destination in itself. Domestic connections reach Rio in under an hour, and the northeast, the Amazon and the south are all a single flight away. Ticketing that onward leg together with the international crossing protects the connection and costs very little, and it consistently beats assembling the journey from separate bookings.
São Paulo itself is a working city rather than a holiday one, and the fare curve reflects that. Business travel keeps the market busy through most of the year, so the seasonal swings are gentler than they are into Rio. December through February is the Brazilian summer and the softer stretch for corporate demand, while the southern autumn and winter carry the steadier business traffic.
Guarulhos sits about twenty five kilometres northeast of the centre, and the transfer is the part travelers underestimate. São Paulo traffic is among the heaviest anywhere and the drive routinely takes over an hour, considerably more at either end of the working day. The airport bus service to the main hotel districts is reliable, but arranging a car in advance is the sensible move after an overnight.
One further note that applies across Brazil. Fares here move more with the calendar than with the booking window, so shifting a trip three weeks either side of Carnival or the New Year does more for the price than any amount of early booking. That holds for São Paulo even though the city empties out during Carnival rather than filling up.
